Rocket FM Lewes is produced by the East Sussex Radio Society, a group of volunteers formed in 2001 as a not-for-profit society to remedy at least occasionally what was...and still is...the endemic absence of any truly local radio service for Lewes, the County Town of East Sussex in England.
The first broadcast in October 2001 was well enough received to inspire everybody to continue, and the station even received the honour of a civic reception by the Mayor of Lewes in 2005.
Over the last nine years, Rocket FM has become a familiar part of the local scene and the Bonfire season each Autumn.
Planning is now starting for our tenth anniversary broadcast and we aim to make it the best ever, as well putting on some extra events to celebrate a decade of Rocket FM.
We are entirely dependent on the goodwill of our volunteers to mount the broadcast and of our sponsors and advertisers to cover the considerable cost of each run, notwithstanding that all time and expertise is donated.
The feedback we receive tells us that our activities benefit the town of Lewes and its citizens, even though practical considerations do limit our broadcast to one month each year.
