  • Tenth Birthday Year!

    Rocket FM

Did you know that East Sussex Radio Society will be ten years old this year?

The society of volunteers behind Rocket FM was founded in 2001, with the aim of getting a genuinely local station for Lewes, East Sussex, back on air, if only under a series of temporary licences.

Over the last nine years, Rocket FM has become a familiar part of the local scene and the Bonfire season each Autumn.

Planning is now starting for our tenth anniversary season and we aim to make it the best ever, as well putting on some extra events to celebrate a decade of Rocket FM.

  • Short Report to Sponsors '09

Each year, Rocket reports to the sponsors on the run just ended.  Here are the main points from this year's Report:

Our longest run yet...28 days, including the internet-only segment.

New transmitter bought, with stronger FM signal.

Brand-new website, with blog, real-time listings, and rotating sponsors' panel.

11,825 visitors to this website by 6 November '09.

Webcam at the War Memorial this year, plus two others in the town.

Best-ever computer support, our system fully networked.

We made a small surplus to carry over towards our tenth year.

Thank you to all the advertisers and sponsors for making that possible!

We are planning some extra activities for our tenth anniversary season and will keep sponsors informed.

    Seasonal greetings to everybody!

  • All Change For Bonfire

Bonfire Info leafletThere are some big changes this year to the way Bonfire parking, road closures, and crowd control are being handled on the Fifth. With no parking in the town centre and no entrance to Lewes via major gateways from 5pm, these measures WILL affect you. Listen out for Rocket's two special announcements, and pick up a leaflet from the Tourist Information shop, or online here. Keep listening to Rocket for further updates.

  • BANNER'S UP!

The Rocket banner is now flying again in the precinct...thankyou, Colin R, Mark G and the boys at LOS!

We now have placards on the approach roads to the town as well...  thanks to the 'Outdoor Team', Miche L, John G, Paul S. and friends.

The FM service for Lewes and district went live on 87.8 at 7am on Saturday, 17 October.

Listeners in Lewes have a choice between the internet and the on-air service...some are choosing the former, as the downland topography makes reception difficult in some locations, although this year the new transmitter is helping.
