My love of New Orleans jazz started in the late 1950’s as I went to jazz clubs and bought records. In the 70’s I managed to get to New Orleans to hear jazz being played across the city but particularly at Preservation Hall.
I still go to the local jazz club at Hassocks to hear the great Muskrat Ramblers and I still buy records – well CDs now of course. During the period I am on air, I will also be running a course for Lewes U3A on New Orleans Jazz,
In the shows I’ll be playing a selection of records from the early part of the 20th century right up to today but all in the idiom of New Orleans jazz. So join me and listen to the greats such as Louis Armstrong, King Oliver, Bix Beiderbecke, Jelly Roll Morton, Humphrey Lyttelton, Chris Barber, and many more.
Each week I shall ask a guest to talk about their favourite records and I will also put the spotlight on one famous person each week and play a selection of their records and talk a bit about their background.
So do join me on this trip to New Orleans, sit back and enjoy – I know I will!
