'The History Hour' on Rocket FM
In four one-hour programmes, the presenters take a look at subjects which interest them from the rich and varied history of Lewes and the surrounding area. The presenters are Andy Thomas, Rosie Boxer and Caroline Moss-Gibbons.
Friday 16 Oct:
This will be a taster for the following weeks’ programmes. Caroline and Rosie present tantalising snippets of the items coming up over the next 3 weeks.
Friday 23 Oct:
Andy will be talking to Isilda Almeida-Harvey about the work of the East Sussex Record Office, which is at the Maltings in the Castle Precincts, and about their Open Days on 7 & 8 November, details at: www.eastsussex.gov.uk/whatson
Friday 30 Oct:
Caroline will present 'the Lost Parish of St Mary's' and will be talking to Debby Matthews. Debby will also talk about the fossil-hunter Gideon Mantell. There will be an update on developments from the Lewes Priory Trust, with Simon Morse-Brown.
Friday 6 Nov:
Rosie will present 'Local Heroes', three generations of the Baxter family in Lewes'
She will explore the lives of John Baxter who moved to Lewes in 1803-and amongst other things founded the Sussex Express, his son George Baxter, who patented a revolutionary colour print-making process in 1835, and John’s grandson and George’s nephew, Wynne Edwin Baxter, who founded the Lewes firm of solicitors bearing his name (now Mayo Wynne Baxter) over 130 years ago and became a ‘celebrity’ coroner in London, and who presided at three of the 'Jack the Ripper' inquests.
