We are a group of radio enthusiasts formed in Lewes, East Sussex, a few years ago to bring real community radio to the area. The core group numbers around 20, though many more help out in many different ways when the station is broadcasting. We're a diverse bunch - some of the group have many years' professional experience in radio, others joined with enthusiasm as their sole qualification. We simply share a belief that radio is a very effective means of communication for a community of Lewes's size and character. And it's fun.
We produce Rocket FM Lewes for three weeks in October/November each year, and in the longer term we believe that the area could support a more regular (if not full-time) community radio station, perhaps at weekends. Licence fee aside, a full-time station would have a sizeable wages bill - at present our volunteers "do" Rocket on holiday from their day jobs. But if an opportunity arises...! However, this project is run entirely by volunteers. And we would like you to join us!
You don't have to be a techie (although techies are very welcome too). If you are interested in any aspect of radio - presenting, researching, producing or even answering the phone, then we are interested in you. We are extremely informal, and will welcome you regardless of your level of expertise - all we ask is interest and enthusiasm.
This web page will eventually have on it more about what we do (which includes conducted tours of local radio stations), but in the meantime its purpose is to let you know how to get in touch with us. You can write to us at 15 Mount Pleasant, Lewes, East Sussex BN7 2DH, or you can e-mail us at andytho@talk21.com. Please tell us briefly about yourself, which aspect(s) of radio interest you, and any relevant experience or expertise you have. Don't forget your contact details!
Try us out, have a chat and see whether you might be interested in joining us. It only costs £10 a year, and you can have huge fun for that!
